Scottsdale, Arizona —— Representing the San Francisco Giants at the Arizona Fall League, Chris Shaw is working on acclimating himself to the outfield during his playing time the next few weeks in the prestigious offseason league. Wanting to know more, we caught up with the prospect to ask about that and plenty more before a recent Scottsdale Scorpions game at Scottsdale Stadium. In tonight’s 1-on-1 interview, Baseball Census on-air host Sande Charles runs the gamut with Chris Shaw on a variety of topics. You can watch that interview in full right here:
Chris Shaw, of course, is coming off a monster 2017 season split between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento, during which he slashed .292/.346/.525/.871 across 469 at-bats, with 35 doubles, 24 home runs, 38 walks, and 132 strikeouts. A former first round draft pick of the San Francisco Giants (2015), Shaw figures to start the 2018 season in Triple-A again and play it out there as he adjusts to more experienced pitching and bides his time waiting for a call-up to The Show. And even though his stats may suggest he’s a power hitter, as Chris Shaw explains above, he’s actually a more complete hitter than he sometimes gets credit for, showing remarkable contentment at times to hit the ball the way it’s pitched and stay within his approach. And as you’ll see in the video, Chris Shaw is remarkably mature with a very solid understanding of what is expected of him and where he might fit in the organization.
