Fastball 87-90 … Slider 78-82.

Big, strong kid with a durable frame; plenty of downhill plane through release. Three-quarters release with longer arm action in the back. Whip-like loose arm with tons of arm speed to release; arm action/arm speed are exceptional on slider in particular; out of his hand, identical look for fastball/slider … Fastball isn’t overpowering, but shows decent velo with good life; plays up considerably when it’s down the zone; easy arm action with plenty of arm speed and size, should have more velocity coming. Poor command of his fastball, though; inconsistent pitch right now … Really, really good slider; great arm action sells the pitch, and even when it backs up, very tough for hitters to pull the trigger because of arm action and deception that has it looking like a fastball out of the hand. Good tilt on slider; already flashing a power look without overthrowing it. Could stand to get extended and throw it more consistently to glove-side, but flashed really strong in my look … Jonathan Tyler has had an interesting career to this point; pitched fewer than ten innings total the last couple years between UC Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara City College, and Los Angeles Mission College and he’s clearly raw, but there’s arm strength and pitch life here for a four-year school to develop; could flourish in a relief role over the next couple years. Unlikely MLB Draft follow in 2018, but should make for a nice bullpen addition at a four-year school. Size and two-pitch potential bear watching for potential future MLB Draft look.
