We’ve seen Santa Ana College LHP Nathan Flores several times before; please click here for our February 2018 scouting report on the lefty.

Fastball 82-89 (85-87) … Changeup 73-80 (74-77) … Curveball 68-73 (70-72) … Times to the plate with a runner on first: 1.20, 1.21, 1.22, 1.22, 1.24, 1.25, 1.26, 1.27, 1.28, 1.29, 1.31, 1.34.

Worked exclusively from stretch in my second look against Riverside City College … Surprisingly quick to the plate; quick, short arm action with high elbow reminds me a bit of Billy Wagner; profiles well at higher levels as a reliever with some arm strength/velocity left to build in … Hitting 88 in bottom two of first look, but a little bit out of control; throws considerably harder with nobody on base; 85-88 from the full, 82-85 from the stretch in first look; comparable in second look, though was working from stretch full time … Struggles to stay on top of pitches, overthrows with balls missing high, especially in upper velocity bands and especially his fastball, but when he gets on top there’s some arm strength, manipulation, and surprising downward plane, especially considering his height … Tight little arm-side run to his fastball; moves late to arm side at its best; modest sink at times too; tunnels it and changeup very well together with speed differential and plenty of late life … The changeup has very strong, late arm-side life with tons of sink and late tumble/run to it; the changeup is a serious out pitch; he loves going to it, and he sells it extremely well with arm action; Really, really nasty changeup in my look against RHH for Riverside City College in early April … Goes to changeup often against both RHH and LHH; will go back to changeup if he misses with it early; not afraid to use it in virtually any count, and it was his out pitch in my look against Riverside City … Struggles to feel curveball; never really got a good curveball over for a strike in my multiple looks; struggled mightily to get on the top of the pitch and release it out front. Shortcoming there; without curveball for a strike, Nathan Flores has comparatively little to get LHH out as competition improves.
