Max George Scouting Report — INF, Colorado Rockies

colorado rockies baseball prospects 1 max george scouting report
Prospect: Max George
Position: Infielder
Organization: Colorado Rockies
Height/Weight: 5’9″, 180 lbs.
Bats/Throws: R/R
Age/DOB: 22 (April 7, 1996)
Acquired/Hometown: 6th round, 2014 MLB Draft (Denver, CO; Regis HS)

4.07 to first from RHH box; 4.37 on the turn at first.

Notes — April 5-6
Intense; good competitor, vocal leadership qualities in my limited look. Not a ton of physical size and little projection left through frame; sturdy, strong enough, but no physicality or upside to drool over … Short stroke; punchy line drive guy with decent coverage to all fields, though predominantly does damage (esp. in the air) up the middle and to pull side … Pretty marked two-strike approach; will cut down leg kick considerably, widen out stance, and try to punch balls through the infield for hard contact when down in the count. Decent barrel skills to that end. Not a ton of offensive upside but will take good at-bats. Happy feet in the box, a little reminiscent of Nolan Arenado; will pick up and put down his back foot ahead of going into load; bears watching more to see how it affects timing as he moves into upper minors … Decent but not spectacular fielder; range is fine; will make the routine play but struggled in my (limited first) look to extend range and make more difficult plays. Solid if not spectacular; consistent competitor who could fill out an organizational role for a few years.

Was a multi-season repeat guy at Low-A Asheville the last few years; finally reached High-A this year after three shots at the South Atlantic League. If Garrett Hampson is the perfect utility man mold as far as current Colorado Rockies prospects go, Max George is a grade or two short of that; more limited in both defensive ability and offensive firepower than Hampson, but will eventually be fighting for similar roles. For me, Max George has a utility man ceiling, but more likely future as organizational depth with occasional/emergency call-up potential if things go right.
