Timed 4.14 from the LHH box to first base; 4.43 and 4.44 on the turn at first; 8.20 home to second.

Intense competitor with great work ethic; some natural leadership qualities. Smaller guy, but decent musculature and natural strength even in smaller frame. Uses frame well for speed; quick first step in all regards and great runner who fits as a top-of-the-order spark plug … Tendency to bunt and use his speed at the plate; will look to drag bunt and test third baseman early. Generally opposite field orientation/approach; hands are quick enough to get around inside when pitched there, but easy swing to left-center field, particularly to produce contact in the air. Not a ton of power to project at the next level, but good barrel skills and feel for contact … Tracks the ball very well on defense in center field; moves well on balls hit off the bat, and glides easily in center field. Good runner; natural defender there; arm strength fine, but main weapon is covering ground gap to gap.

Gage Morey enjoyed a nice collegiate career and could/should get an MLB Draft look from a pro organization out of Florida Gulf Coast University; he could make for a nice defense-first fringe prospect in a couple years’ time with an org, though undersized and older than ideal. I need to really see how his bat plays in pro ball before going all out on a projection, but the defensive skills and speed are there to play every day at ceiling; the more he can produce offensively against pro pitching, the better he’ll be.
