Notes — March 25
Strong but young, looks like he still could lose some baby fat and grow into his body in the next couple years. We’ve only scratched the surface of his physical upside and raw power potential. Very, very intense competitor; seems to be energy man & heart and soul of a good FGCU team … Opposite field home run power in my look; flashed power to all fields and showed surprisingly full plate coverage. Strong hands and wrists to help drive the ball; middle of the order mainstay at FGCU who will almost certainly produce enough pop to remain in a corner infield role in pro ball … Flashed 55 arm strength across the diamond from third base; accurate to targets with good velo. Moves very well at third base, especially for his size; good, sound footwork to move in or back on the ball as necessary with good lateral range to boot. Watch him make several nice plays at third in my look, including a 5-4-3 double play working back on a very tricky hop, and a good reaction play on a dribbler to sprint in and throw accurately off balance on the run. Good reads off the bat; good situational awareness defensively and makes smart decisions in the field. Solid all around player who loves to compete.

Richie Garcia has hit the ground running in his Florida Gulf Coast University career, and when he’s draft eligible in 2019, I can’t imagine teams not giving him a long, long look ahead of the MLB Draft. He’ll grow into more power and tighten up his body to great ends by then with age, though he’s surprisingly nimble and consistent at third base already, which suggeset he may have a shot to stay there well into the pro game. Everyday corner infielder profile at ceiling; a year out from being MLB Draft eligible, but definitely a guy to watch as he gets there.
