Donnie Walton Scouting Report — INF, Seattle Mariners

Prospect: Donnie Walton
Position: Infielder
Organization: Seattle Mariners
Height/Weight: 5’10”, 184 lbs.
Bats/Throws: L/R
Age/DOB: 23 (May 25, 1994)
Acquired/Hometown: 5th Round (2016); Dallas, TX (Oklahoma State)

Timed 4.17 and 4.19 up the line from the LHH box.

Notes — April 5-6
Maybe a bit undersized, but solid, strong, thick build; ideal for full season ball with good natural strength base. Prove-it year as far as health is concerned after a hand injury sidelined him for a large chunk of 2017 … Formerly a switch hitter, only left-handed now; he thinks it’ll give him a shot to more consistently hit the ball with authority, matchup changes aside. Love the left-handed stroke; open stance with long lean back into load position, fires off quickly with great hands and very good bat speed. Uses all fields at the plate; hands quick enough to turn on pitches in, but mature in orientation to hit the ball the other way as necessary … Very good all-around defender; chops to move across the infield, but has been posted up at second base in my recent looks and fits there well naturally; sure hands, good arm, consistent. Covers ground … Advanced but not flashy, generally solid all-around ballplayer without a ton of holes in his game; Donnie Walton could flourish in the California League in 2018 and the Seattle Mariners may move him up fairly quickly if all goes to plan.
