Brock Burke Scouting Report — LHP, Tampa Bay Rays

Prospect: Brock Burke
Position: Left-Handed Pitcher
Organization: Tampa Bay Rays
Height/Weight: 6’4″, 200 lbs.
Bats/Throws: L/L
Age/DOB: 21 (August 4, 1996)
Acquired/Hometown: 3rd (2014); Evergreen, CO (Evergreen HS)

Four-Seam Fastball 91-95 … Two-Seam Fastball 88-93 … Changeup 79-83 … Curveball 73-76 … Cutter 79-84.

Notes — March 21
Sneaky-hard fastball velo that’ll get on hitters. Tendency to drop a couple ticks of velo from the stretch as compared to the windup. Good as an establishing pitch with some command side to side on the plate; modest life to arm-side with natural run and some sink at times … Cutter is big at times, can almost blend into a slider; tough to differentiate between cutter and slider as he’ll change the shape of it a little bit, but it’s generally got velo behind it with late horizontal life to glove side. Predominantly the weapon of choice to face RHH … Curveball inconsistent in my look; used it really only to LHH as pitch breaking away, but struggled to figure out release point and command of the pitch early. No real feel for it in my look; bigger breaking ball, but not sharp or late; slow. Generally only for LHH with a few exceptions … Some feel for tumbling changeup down in the zone, but inconsistent execution and command on the pitch … Brock Burke is a big kid with a big arm, but he’s still a little ways off for the Tampa Bay Rays; consider him a solid lefty prospect with some much-needed growth in consistency and execution hopefully on its way.
