Bryson Brigman Scouting Report — INF, Seattle Mariners

Prospect: Bryson Brigman
Position: Infielder
Organization: Seattle Mariners
Height/Weight: 5’11”, 180 lbs.
Bats/Throws: R/R
Age/DOB: 22 (June 19, 1995)
Acquired/Hometown: 3rd Round (2016); San Jose, CA (Univ. San Diego)

Timed 4.11 out of the RHH box up to first base; 4.51 on the turn at first.

Notes — April 5-6
Wide stance at the plate; not a ton of stride or leg kick; leans back and down into load and hits from a relatively low crouch. Decent bat speed; quick hands with consistent ability to get in and around on hard stuff on his inner half; pretty good example of a ‘short to it, long through it’ guy with good extension through contact, particularly on the inner half … Encouraging raw strength produces some sneaky pop; hit a no-doubt bomb in my April look, but more likely to be a gap-to-gap power guy with decent foot speed to take advantage on the bases. Proficient with the barrel and good plate coverage; safe bet to be an advanced all-fields hitter at ceiling, though I really do like his ability to turn on inside pitches with authority … Consistent, advanced defender; exactly what you’d expect up the middle from a Division I product; good fundamentals, consistent execution, solid range. Probably a future utility man, but at least based on my early look he should have the chops to play shortstop at a high level, even in short stints. Consistent all-around ballplayer who could reasonably be expected to graduate to Double-A at some point later this year.

All signs point to a utility/platoon middle infielder at ceiling for Bryson Brigman. The Seattle Mariners prospect has proficient tools across the board without anything standing out as notably advanced or well above-average; high floor/low ceiling college product who should move steadily through the minors; real shot to provide big league value off the bench for the Seattle Mariners by 2020.

  1. […] Notes — April 5-6 Wide set stance down into low crouch at load; somewhat reminiscent of teammate Bryson Brigman in that regard. Loses some leverage with wide set and lower crouch in stance, but still managed to […]
