Cristhian Adames, SS, Miami Marlins

Timed 4.19, 4.20 (3x), 4.22 to first out of the LHH box; 4.37 on the turn at first (LHH); 7.99 home to second (LHH; slide safe).

Physically, Cristhian Adames is more or less the same guy he was making big league appearances for the Colorado Rockies the last four years; versatile defender, light bat, switch hitter, ideal bench/role player, AAAA-guy who can produce quite a bit in Triple-A but has struggled to stick in the big leagues with below-average tools, etc. … The new story here is Adames’ mindset with his new organization, the Miami Marlins; he appears to have really embraced a leadership role in Triple-A; very high spirits, upbeat, and a vocal leader in my April look. Not bitter like you might expect from some aging Triple-A guys; light on his feet and excited. Busted hard down the line every single time he put the ball in play over three days of my looks in a cold early April environment, including nearly beating out a routine ground ball in the top of the ninth with New Orleans down seven runs on the road at the tail end of a very cold night. Showed me a little bit about his mindset and drive to get back to the big leagues. The tools are what they are, but if there’s an opportunity, maybe Cristhian Adames will be called up as a bench/role/fill-in that can help in the big leagues to some minor degree — he’s still only 26 years old, after all. His mindset is right and he seems to be embracing an opportunity with the Miami Marlins, however unlikely it may be. Small thing, but encouraging to see, and felt it worth a quick write-up; wish him luck in returning to The Show.
