Anthony Jimenez Scouting Report — OF, Seattle Mariners

Prospect: Anthony Jimenez
Position: Outfielder
Organization: Seattle Mariners
Height/Weight: 5’11”, 165 lbs.
Bats/Throws: R/R
Age/DOB: 22 (October 21, 1995)
Acquired/Hometown: Amateur FA, 2013 (Caja Seca, Venezuela)

Timed 4.14 and 4.17 up the line from the RHH box.

Notes — April 5-6
Wide set stance down into low crouch at load; somewhat reminiscent of teammate Bryson Brigman in that regard. Loses some leverage with wide set and lower crouch in stance, but still managed to connect on an opposite field home run during my look that showed remarkably good hand and wrist strength and some bat speed. Shows decent line drive pop with some ability to elevate for power; even flashes decent leverage considering very wide stance at point of contact; strong kid … Free swinger to an extent; will chase out of the zone and needs to improve strike zone discipline … Good athlete in the outfield; tracks the ball off the bat very well with very good hand-eye coordination. Strong arm; defensively, should be somewhat versatile in the outfield … Athletic kid with a strong, lean build; good foot speed with some sneaky pop and potential for more. Should grow into his body nicely at ceiling; under-the-radar prospect to begin 2018.

First time seeing Anthony Jimenez in a limited look at the start of the year, but the Seattle Mariners may have an everyday outfielder at ceiling here; swing-and-miss and plate discipline issues will haunt if they don’t get corrected — or somewhat limited — so there’s a risk he plateaus into a bench role, or organizational depth. Some of the tools and plenty of the athleticism are already there, though; Anthony Jimenez bears watching closely this season in Modesto.
