Lars Nootbaar Scouting Report — OF, USC

Prospect: Lars Nootbaar
Position: Outfielder
Organization: University of Southern California
Height/Weight: 6’2”, 205 lbs.
Bats/Throws: L/R
Age/DOB: 20 (September 8, 1997)
Acquired/Hometown: El Segundo, CA (El Segundo HS)

April 18, 2018 — Big kid; strong, broad shoulders with plenty of muscle through top half; powerful build with maybe a little bit more room to fill out, but close to final physical projection without much upside remaining there. Strong hands and wrists, helps aid power profile at the plate … 4.29 up the line from LHH box; foot speed OK, especially for size; decent athletic movements underlying, but certainly more power than speed through entire profile. Power will be carrying tool into pro ball; couple towering home runs in my look with above-average bat speed and plenty of strength & leverage through contact. Attacks the ball; swing and miss present as trade-off for above-average power, but can put on a show when he connects … Not a great arm in left field; short, stiff arm action; accuracy OK, but velo and carry leave something to be desired … Surprisingly good range on the run to track down F7 slicing towards foul line (and away from him) early in my look; ran fairly well, stayed on ball very well in what proved to be a pretty tough play … Lars Nootbaar is a likely MLB Draft candidate in 2018 out of USC; above-average power is his calling card and most projectable trait going forward in pro ball; at ceiling, he’ll be a pretty typical high floor/major college power-hitting corner outfield prospect in the pro game.
