Armani Smith, UTIL, UC Santa Barbara

Big, strong kid; stands out physically as much more developed than teammates. Objective foot speed doesn’t back up athletic first look quite as well — just 4.32 up the line from RHH box in my May look — but he moves pretty well in the outfield. Few problems tracking balls/judging carry in left field in my look, though wind was playing tricks all night — tough to say whether it’s him or a tough wind just based on one look. Average arm; need to see more across the board for a defensive profile … Above-average bat speed with some loft in his swing at the plate; hit a towering home run with plenty of carry in one at-bat; raw power definitely there based on BP look pre-game, as well. Worthy of another few looks to really nail down a deeper profile, but just for a single-game snapshot, Armani Smith showed off a few tools; UC Santa Barbara has a decently athletic power hitter here who might draw some future MLB Draft interest.
