Kyle Lucke Scouting Report — RHP, UC San Diego

Prospect: Kyle Lucke
Position: Right-Handed Pitcher
Organization: UC San Diego
Height/Weight: 6’6”, 235 lbs.
Bats/Throws: R/R
Age/DOB: Junior (Four-Year)
Acquired/Hometown: El Dorado Hills, CA (Oak Ridge HS)

May 9-10, 2018 — UC San Diego (CCAA Tournament)
Big, tall pitcher; sturdy frame; great plane with height. Power profile with some velo likely coming once he enters pro ball; even now sat 89-92 with his fastball in my May look, pairing it with a 68-72 curveball and a 76-80 slider … Ideal for the bullpen; herky-jerky mechanics with a lot of deception towards the plate; powerful arm who likes to challenge hitters with the fastball. Seems to work particularly well on adrenaline, coming into the middle of an inning with runners on base needing a shut-down; high energy guy who thrives in tight situations; wants to be a part of it … Tough for hitters to time up and square up with three distinct looks on pitches; fastball is hard with great plane and some natural boring action in on RHH; curveball is bigger with 12-to-6 break and much less velo, will change eye level and get hitters out on front foot; slider shows the makings of a power breaking ball with tilt and some wipeout potential thanks to depth … Easy to imagine him an MLB Draft candidate next month; potential ceiling in an organization as late-inning, high leverage reliever. Expect real velo bump to come in pro ball; power (7th/8th inning) relief profile well within reach; org depth floor.
