Brady Dorn Scouting Report — INF, San Francisco State

Position: Infielder (Shortstop)
Organization: San Francisco State
Height/Weight: 5’11”, 190 lbs.
Bats/Throws: R/R
Age/DOB: Junior (Four-Year; JuCo transfer)

May 9-11, 2018 — San Francisco State Gators (CCAA Baseball Tournament)
Solid overall baseball player with advanced feel for the game and good instincts; knack for letting the game come to him and finding himself in the middle of key situations … played shortstop in my CCAA Tourney looks, held his own there; strong arm across the diamond with soft hands, consistency fielding side to side at a premium position. Likely will move off to second or third in pro ball; seems more a natural fit at one of those without plus overall athleticism, but he’ll hold his own at short for San Francisco State next year before that. Good situational awareness on defense and great understanding of spatial awareness and his body, particularly when moving back on pop-ups into the outfield. Solid defender who will get better with more reps; tools are there; future everyday infielder at the minor league level with probable utility ceiling in The Show … 4.22 runner up the line from the RHH box; not a speedster, but that’ll get it done; first-step quickness is better defensively getting to balls; moves well laterally, particularly to his glove side … Patient hitter; knows the strike zone; tracks pitches well and picks up spin. Comfortable working counts and hitting deep in counts; knows what’s his to hit and what he needs to spit on; advanced understanding of the strike zone relative to level, combined with good feel for the barrel. Gets off a lot of ‘A’ swings, even without exceptional raw or game power; contact guy who can probably work gap to gap with success at the next level. Brady Dorn is one to watch in 2019 with San Francisco State; shot to put it all together and have a memorable year, and it won’t surprise if he gets on MLB Draft radar along the way.
