al west los angeles angels baseball prospects 1 carlos salazar scouting report
Prospect: Carlos Salazar
Position: Right-Handed Pitcher
Organization: Los Angeles Angels
Height/Weight: 6’0”, 200 lbs.
Bats/Throws: R/R
Age/DOB: 23 (November 23, 1994)
Acquired/Hometown: Free Agent (2018); Kerman, CA (Kerman HS)

May 22, 2018 — Inland Empire 66ers (High-A, California League)
Relative newcomer to the Los Angeles Angels after being released by the Atlanta Braves in the middle of the 2017 season; local central California kid originally drafted out of high school but never crested High-A with the Braves … Sat 90-93 with his fastball in my brief look here; 75-77 with a below-average 11-to-5 curveball without much depth; flashed change (no reading; brief outing). Not a ton of pitch life; poor command of the strike zone … Left after one-third of an inning with an apparent injury; need a deeper look next time, but readily apparent command struggles across entire repertoire with mechanical problems and lack of consistency in release point, landing, follow through, etc. … Tough to see Carlos Salazar as anything more than organizational depth in his current context, but to be fair, I’d need to see a longer outing to fully fill out a projection.
