Jonah Wesely Scouting Report — LHP, Los Angeles Angels

al west los angeles angels baseball prospects news 1 jonah wesely scouting report
Prospect: Jonah Wesely
Position: Left-Handed Pitcher
Organization: Los Angeles Angels
Height/Weight: 6’1”, 215 lbs.
Bats/Throws: L/L
Age/DOB: 23 (December 8, 1994)
Acquired/Hometown: Tracy, CA (Tracy HS)

May 23, 2018 — Inland Empire 66ers (High-A, California League)
Three-quarters lefty with some deception through delivery, turning his back to hitter and hiding the ball pretty well from batters on both sides; max-effort guy with some command problems; control well ahead of command at this point, but profiles OK for a bullpen role in current iteration … Fastball 89-91 with arm-side run and some sink at times; paired with a changeup (didn’t throw) and a 79-82 sweeping slider with horizontal life and occasional tilt … Fastball seems deceptively hard; drew some bad, late, and awkward swings and really explodes to the plate. Slider sweeps almost like a cutter, but bigger; throws it hard and pitch proved tough for RHH and LHH to square up; feel for it early in counts and as a wipeout pitch late; some strikeout ability there to miss bats late in close games, particularly against LHH … Bullpen future with real shot at high-leverage situations as a matchup lefty; could stand to refine/improve velo and consistency on entire repertoire, but there’s some quirkiness here in Jonah Wesely that could provide modest relief value to the Los Angeles Angels in a while; not a frontline relief arm to track by any means, but a guy worth keeping an eye on as a potential future matchup southpaw.
