Bryan Baker Scouting Report & Game Video

Position: RHP
Height/Weight: 6’6”, 220 lbs.
Bats/Throws: R/R
Birthdate: December 2, 1994
Hometown: Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
School: University of North Florida
FV (20-80): 40 (Low-Leverage Middle Relief)
MLB ETA: 2020

Dates Observed: June 9, 2018

Team/Organization: Lancaster JetHawks (Colorado Rockies)
League/Level: California League (High-A)
Scouting Notes: Big, strong kid; big frame, some natural plane/downward life from height. Other than that, high-three quarters/nearly overhand release point provides very little side-to-side pitch life or fade to fastball; straightforward repertoire with command issues, below-average control across it … Fastball 86-91 in June look here; changeup 79-82 along with it, and showed an 81-83 slider. Everything is pretty straight/unremarkable; not a ton of life or sharp late movement to really anything in his repertoire … Both off-speed pitches are firm and somewhat flat, lack late life, probably not enough to get off barrels or miss bats consistently, especially against better hitters … At best a 40 FV middle reliever at ceiling, Bryan Baker is more likely an org depth arm with maybe some emergency up-and-down potential with development; command/control must improve, even for bullpen/low-leverage work, and stuff just isn’t quite up to task at present to warrant work against better and better hitters beyond upper minors.
