Clark Eder Scouting Report & Game Video
Dates Observed: June 6, 2018
Team/Organization: San Luis Obispo Blues (California Collegiate League)
League/Level: College summer baseball
Scouting Notes: Big kid with plenty of projection through frame still, a couple more years to grow into it, in all likelihood. Threw just one inning in his freshman season at San Diego State; building out innings for the San Luis Obispo Blues this summer … Fastball 85-88, changeup 75-77, slider 72-75 in my relief look from Clark Eder here; also timed 1.40 – 1.51 to the plate with runner on first … Three-quarters release with some pitch life; fastball runs to arm-side consistently but stays on one plane, shows tendency to run right into RHH bat; ability to get it in off the plate to RHH and tie guys up with decent velo; rare sink that plays up just a little bit when he is working down … Decently sharp slider with some tilt, depth; hard break with enough late life there to miss some bats, showed some feel for spin and enough ability with it to mix it in consistently … Didn’t show any feel for the changeup in this outing; very flat, very firm, lacked real life and probably won’t provide him much use as is even with velo differential … In all, Clark Eder has the size, and maybe the makings of some of the arm strength, but he really still needs to build out innings and reps the next couple years with San Diego State to see what could become of his career; lots of work yet to be done.
