Amed Rosario Scouting Report
As polished as they come for his age and experience defensively, Amed Rosario figures to be in the New York Mets’ big league plans for a long time to come. Entering 2017, Rosario was one of the best prospects in all of baseball, and he has the hands, range, and athleticism to remain at shortstop long after his prospect tenure has ended and he’s a big league contributor. With great foot speed and a strong arm for the position, too, Rosario’s athleticism is a differentiator on defense and should make him one of the better defensive shortstops in all of baseball in due time.
At the plate, Rosario is a bit more raw in his tools and outcomes, though he has consistently held his own against professional competition years older throughout his minor league career. He has great hand-eye coordination, he has proven to show above-average contact skills, and he can find the ball with the barrel of his bat even with mid-swing adjustments to account for off-speed pitches. His power stroke isn’t as developed, and even though he has some room to physically grow into some pop at the plate, it’s more likely he’ll be a doubles hitter with a knack for getting on base as he ages. Regardless, Rosario has all the tools at hand to become an above-average big league shortstop with the New York Mets in due time, and he’ll be worth every viewing along the way.
