Scouting Report

Thick build, durable catcher’s body, powerful with good athleticism and quick-twitch movements at his size. Near final form but may add some strength and tighten up modestly. Very good athleticism for his size, OK foot speed (best 4.51 up the line). Strong thrower, big-time arm with quick exchanges (2.03 pop for me at best, more around 2.10), though inconsistent with accuracy and mechanics from time to time. OK receiver; promising but very raw, needs innings and experience badly but flashes defensive acumen and suggests more to come. Powerful bat, good bat speed, handles velocity fine; can be over-aggressive, wants to pull, beat by good off-speed stuff more than hard fastball. Will chase; aggressive; flashes patience and good understanding at times but as with defensive tools really needs ABs and experience to iron out bad habits. Raw with tool upside, baseball skills improving with a ways left to go. Possible D1 catching future, maybe pro ball depending on how he develops. Big-time upside; one of the potentially stronger and more intriguing, higher-risk 2022 prospects; lots of questions ahead but projects. Potential to be a dude, even if it’s a little ways off; one of my favorites from his class even though he’s risky and there are more than a few questions to be answered ahead.
