Christian Arroyo Scouting Report
One of the purest hitters in the minor leagues coming up through the San Francisco Giants’ ranks, Christian Arroyo has a knack for getting the barrel on the ball and shows hand-eye coordination that is well above-average, both desirable traits in a very young infielder. He spent the first few years of his professional career competing against minor leaguers several years older than him, and it’s only benefitted him from the get-go, as he now turns his attention to where he might fit on a big league roster. A shortstop by trade, in the last two years, Arroyo has been playing a bit more second base and third base. He’s probably a better fit at third than short, where even though he has the arm-strength for shortstop, his range isn’t quite ideal for a big leaguer playing that position every day.
At the plate, Arroyo has shown a little bit of budding power early in his career, but he’s held down now by being overly aggressive. He rarely walks, which is not necessarily rare for a young hitter like Arroyo, but he’ll need to be more selective at the plate long-term if he’s to find success in the big leagues. With his body as it is, he could develop a bit more strength and, with the help of being selective, could turn himself into a decent home run hitter, too. Above all, he’s an overly consistent player who is smarter than his years might show, and he should find himself up in the big leagues and impacting the game’s highest level for years to come.
